CALA Part of President’s Bill-Signing Ceremony For Class Action Reform Bill
President of Silicon Valley CALA Chapter Told President Personal Story in Oval Office Meeting in January

(Sacramento)- The Central California/Sacramento region of Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse (CCCALA) today applauded the signing of S. 5, the Class Action Fairness Act of 2005 as a major step toward reducing abusive class action litigation and recognized one long-time CALA leader for his role in the President Bush’s tort reform efforts.  Diann Rogers, executive director of the Central Valley and Sacramento regional group is available for interviews to discuss this landmark event in reform of our nation’s civil justice system.

Don Wolfe, former mayor of Saratoga and president of Silicon Valley Citizens Against Lawsuits Abuse (SVCALA), was invited to stand with the president as he signed the legislation.  Wolfe was also invited to the Oval Office in January to discuss his personal experience with class action lawsuit abuse.  As part of a class action suit filed in the 1990s, Wolfe received a $6 coupon, while the lawyers received $5.8 million.

“CALA is proud to be a part of the national movement for reform of our out-of-control judicial system,” said Rogers.  “This bill is an important step to regaining balance in or courts and stop venue-shopping and other tricks used by personal injury lawyers to game the system.”
