- Stay away from bagels if you want to keep your marriage intact -
A bagel ruined their marriage. That’s what a couple is claiming in yet another lawsuit against a McDonald’s restaurant.
According to a Reuters story, John and Cecelia O’Hare of Panama City Beach have sued McDonald’s claiming an improperly prepared bagel damaged Mr. O’Hare’s teeth and their marriage. Mrs. O’Hare claims she “lost the care, comfort, consortium and society of her husband” as a result of his injuries.
“It’s astounding what plaintiffs and their lawyers will claim in order to try and win a huge cash settlement,” said Diann Rogers, executive director of Central California Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse (CCCALA).
Earlier this year, a claim was filed against McDonald’s for allegedly causing the plaintiff’s obesity. After incurring significant expense to defend itself, the complaint against McDonald’s was eventually dismissed
“The fact that this absurd lawsuit was even allowed to go to court shows how our civil justice system is in desperate need of an overhaul. Until that happens, frivolous lawsuits will continue to thrive, meaning clogged courts and delayed justice, not to mention greater cost to taxpayers,” said Rogers.
CCCALA is a nonprofit, grassroots organization dedicated to educating consumers on the human and financial costs incurred when the legal system is abused for greed, harassment or publicity. More than 4,500 residents and taxpayers throughout the Sacramento region and Central Valley are CALA supporters.
