CALA Warns Legislators: “We’re Watching You!”

California Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse (CALA) today announced its “watchdog” list of California legislators it will be monitoring throughout the 2005 legislative session. These include members of the Assembly Judiciary Committee and the Senate Judiciary Committee, both of which are responsible for civil justice legislation. For the past several legislative sessions, these committees have operated as wholly-owned subsidiaries of the trial bar – killing common sense reforms and rubber stamping proposals, making it easier to sue.

Central California CALA Demands a Stop to Lawsuit Tax

As April 15th, approaches, Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse is calling attention to a hidden “lawsuit tax” that all Americans are being forced to pay due to lawsuit abuse. According to a recent study by Tillinghast Towers Perrin, every American pays $721 – or $2,884 for a family of four – to cover the costs of lawsuits across the nation.
U.S. Chamber Study Ranks California’s Liability Among Nation’s Worst for Second Year

The United States Chamber of Commerce this week released its second annual study which ranked California’s liability system 44th out of 50 in terms of how fair and reasonable the system is perceived to be by corporate America. Nearly 82 percent of respondents also indicated that the litigation environment of a state could affect decisions such as where to locate or do business. And 65 percent ranked state court liability systems as only fair or poor, up from 57 percent last year.
No Fooling: Surveys Show Consumers Think Most Class Actions are a Joke
